Most of us knew his name by reading his articles and opinions in Mzalendo, Daily News and Uhuru; He was one of the leading nationalists of his time and indeed a patriot of Africa, a true son of our beloved motherland. Mr. Chiume who was born in Malawi and later exiled to Tanzania was a "leader of Nyasaland African Congress and served as the Minister of Education and the Minister for Foreign Affairs in the 1960s." according to one popular website. Beside writing for Tanzania Newspaper he also authored several books.

During the Malawian Cabinet Crisis in 1964 he was exiled to Tanzania where he stayed until 1994 after Multi-Party were reintroduce in Malawi. Mr. Chiume died suddenly on Wednesday a day short of his 78th birthday. The following is the official statement from the Chiume's family. May God Rest his Soul in Eternal Peace... Amen . M. M.
